Revisiting the Online Profile

Months ago I posted about what my online profile should really say.  So I thought long enough about it and decided I would post it.  Well, not exactly the same one I blogged here.  I decided that I didn't want to go the total defeatist route.  I mix and matched some ideas from that post and formulated the following post.  Something the online world has never seen...maybe.  Check it out:

"Here it is:  I'm a 30-year old with salt-and-pepper hair (silver fox?) who looks his best when wearing a suit.  I have a job I don't like at all, but I am grateful that I have it.  I am trying to improve in that area.  How long it will take, I am not sure.  I can just tell you that I am not content.  I still get paid decently and have a work-life balance in my current job.  I eventually look forward to having a position I can be proud of.

I'm a pretty laid-back guy.  I enjoy the simple pleasures in life while also enjoying doing something big.  I'm a huge movie and TV buff (sometimes for hours a day depending).  I've been known to speak in movie quotes.  I delve deep into pop culture. If you get my references, you're in.  You should be warned that I have a strong affinity for pop music.  I thought it was a phase, but it turns out it's not.   I have an unhealthy love of D.C. sports team (and the Orioles) and sports in general.  My sports conversations contain so much minutiae that you may feel left out.  But if you can keep up, we can get married.  I enjoy a good happy hour or an epic weekend with my friends, but I can take it easy and be perfectly content just the same.  I enjoy traveling, but I've only been to the UK.  It's an expensive activity.

I am equal parts active and relaxed.  I try my best to exercise at least 4-5 times per week.  I exercise because it's good for me and because I like the way I feel afterwards, despite the fact that each year brings new possibilities for an injury I never would have dreamed of when I was in my mid-twenties.  I also love to eat and enjoy a good meal.  Sometimes the meals win.  I'm never going to look like Channing Tatum or Ryan Gosling.  I've accepted that.  Hopefully you can too.   I also enjoy a lazy weekend here and there where there are no set plans and spontaneity rules the day.  I'm usually up for trying anything.  It's all about experiences.

I have no specific requirements for what I am looking for.  I simply want a good match.  Someone I can mesh well with and laugh with.  I consider myself to have a good sense of humor.  Laughing is my favorite hobby.  I will certainly do everything in my power to make you laugh (and vice versa?).  I will treat you with respect and shower you with praise.  I practice the lost art of chivalry, and I don't apologize for it.  I am "the nice guy".  If that's not your thing then maybe I'm not for you.

I aspire to be proud of what I do, live a happy life with friends and family, and see every Jason Statham movie ever made.  If we can laugh at Chris Farley movies together, I think we'd really have something."

It's been up for about three days and so far I don't think any of the ladies are enamored with it.  Perhaps it hasn't been enough time.  I still haven't even heard from the women I've reached out to.  They could read this and be like "This guy doesn't take a THING seriously."  Whatever though.  I've committed myself now.  Maybe a few months down the line, when the pipeline is dryer than Beefeater gin, I'll consider changing it.  Right now, I'm riding the wave.  If nothing else, I will certainly have learned a good lesson.  With your support, I know I can do this.

  1. Honesty is refreshing. Be yourself and someone will be lucky to have you, as you.

  2. Consider moving your sports-minutae warning to the final paragraph.
